Notes

1012. Jacques Pierre (dit La Rosette) LEGER II

He moved in 1721 to Petitcodiac, NB (St Anselme?).

The Port-Royal Habitation was constructed in 1605 near the mouth of the Dauphin River [now the Annapolis River]. Samuel de Champlain was its architect and it had been the center of a small French settlement.
In 1613 Port-Royal was sacked and burned by troops from Virginia but the name Port-Royal survived and after the arrival of Acadian families from France in the 1630s the area became the birth place of Acadia.

Jacques Léger dit LaRozette was the first Léger ancestor from France to settle in Acadia - which is today Nova Scotia - He came as a soldier with the "troupes de la Marine" that was in garrison at Fort Nachouat(today this is Fredericton, N.B.). When he left the military, he married Madeleine Trahan about 1693. He was 30 years old. Madeleine was the daughter of Guillaume Trahan and Madeleine Brun. Jacques settled at Port-Royal, Acadia, where his 11 children were born. The oldest son named after his father, was born abt 1695. He married Anne Amirault on 12 January 1717. She was the daughter of François Amirault and of Marie Pitre.
Jacques died and was buried 27/28 March 1751 according to the Registers of Port-Royal. (Today this is Annapolis Royal)

1013. Anne AMIRAULT (dit Torangeau)

Ann was born at St. Jean Baptiste, Port Royale, Acadia, which became Annapolis Royal, NS
