Yelland / Henderson Ancestors

Notes

1024. John YELLAND

In the IGI for South Tawton, John is shown as christened 11 Feb 1671, son of John and Margery. His brother Rich Yelland christened 15 May 1677 also shows the parents as John and Margery. James, christened 26 Jun 1670, shows his parents as John and Margaret. There is no record of a marriage of John and Margery or Margaret in South Tawton.

John was a labourer on his son Richard's death in 1700. He was a tailor on his sons James and William's deaths in 1703 and 1705. He was a tailor on the birth of a son and a daughter in 1704 and 1705 on the Parish Register P. 386 and 388.

1025. Prudence MEDLAND

On LDS Film # 0917531, there is an entry of "Affidavits of Burial in Woollen" on P. 474 for Prudence Yelland on 14 Sep 1731 by Mary Windford.

1027. Elizabeth HEAL

It is not known where Elizabeth Heal came from. The WCSL transcriptons and the IGI have her name incorectly spelt as 'Meal' but the actual parish register clearly has her name as 'Heal'. The surname 'Heale' or 'Hele' was quite common in Devon, England at that time; the IGI has several possible christening dates and locations:
1. Elizabeth Heale b. 6/6/1676 at Crediton, daughter of Robert
2. Elizabeth Heale b. 14/10/1678 at Burrington, daughter of John & Etheldred
3. Elizabeth Heale b. 1/6/1680 at Moretonhampstead, daughter of Samuell
4. Elizabeth Hele b. 22/4/1683 at Witheridge (near Tiverton), daughter of Thomas & Joan
5. Elizabeth Heale b. 15/2/1685 at Black Torrington, daughter of John An Elizabeth Heale married John Saunders on 25/7/1704 at Coldridge (near Crediton)
This leaves 2. and 3. as the most likely possiibilties as 5. would have only been 18 years old in 1703. Burrington is a place with known Mallett associations, particularly with the Robert of Dowland line.
