Descendants of YELLAND born about 1601

Notes

184. John (Jack) Fishleigh Allin

He is the twin brother of Elizabeth.

The 1901 and the 1911 Census states that John came to Canada in 1872, which appears to be correct, was born 18 Jan 1869, a methodist, and was a potter.

John, Elizabeth, and Mary came to Canada on 5 Sep 1872 aboard the SS Prussian, with their parents Samuel and Grace and their grand-parents, William and Fidelia Yelland. Elisabeth was listed as Bessie Yelland, infant, but she is the twin sister of John, who was listed as 3 years old. Mary was also listed as an infant.

Amos B. Cunningham

He was a Tool Maker at the time of his marriage.

193. Elizabeth Ann Bickell

In the 1891 Ontario Census, Elizabeth Norish, 42, widow, is living with her brother, Henry R. Bickell and her daughter, Mary G., 11.

353. Evelyn (Eva) Margaret Gordon

I had her birthday as 25 Sep 1858, probably from the obituary. I got her birthday of 23 Nov 1866 from Ontario Deaths 1869-1947.

Eva's mother, Sarah Down, was the sister of William Yelland's second wife, Mary Jane Down.

William George Yelland

He is the twin brother of Johnathon Sweeting YELLAND.

In the Peterborough City Directory 1888-89, he was a carriage maker; worked at 462 George Street, his father's blacksmith shop; and lived at 538 Bethune Street.

On the 1891 Census, he is shown as a widower, and Margaret Spence is shown as a domestic. William George later married Margaret Jane Spence.

He was the informant on his father's Death Certificate in 1920 and living in Toronto, ON.
He lived in Toronto, ON in 1945.
Although he had the family grave site transferred to him in 1916 by William Yelland, he was not buried there. He was probably buried in Toronto with his fourth wife, Annie Marie Frise.

He was a charter member of the Donlands United Church and in 1920 became a member of the official board.

285. George Albert Yelland

The 1901 Census states his birth is 11 Sep 1866 and the 1911 Census states Sep 1868.

361. Gertrude Sarah Yelland

She died from chloroform poisoning during an automobile ride with Robert Childs of Woodstock in an alleged suicide pact. According to the story told by Childs to the police he and the Yelland girl had been keeping company for a year or more, but objections had been raised to their marrying. The two then decided to end their lives together. The chloroform dose was apparently sufficient to kill the girl, but not strong enough to end the life of Childs.
