On the 1891 Census, he is shown as a widower, and Margaret Spence is shown as a domestic. William George later married Margaret Jane Spence.
He was the informant on his father's Death Certificate in 1920 and living in Toronto, ON.
He lived in Toronto, ON in 1945.

In an article in the Toronto Star he celebrated his 90th birthday on 27 May 1948. He was born in Peterborough and moved to Toronto in 1902 and worked 31 years in the Ontario Lands and Titles office. He was a charter member of the Donlands United Church and in 1920 became a member of the official board.
She was possibly born in 1856. She came to Canada from Ireland in 1863.
In the 1891 Census, she was a domestic living with William Yelland, widower.
I had her birthday as 25 Sep 1858, probably from the obituary. I got her birthday of 23 Nov 1866 from Ontario Deaths 1869-1947.
Eva's mother, Sarah Down, was the sister of William Yelland's second wife, Mary Jane Down.

Cause of death: Lost in bush, Age 79 Years. He walked into the bush and was never seen alive again. His body was found almost a year later near Devil's Lake, Haliburton County, Ontario. He was buried at Little Lake Cemetery, Sec. C Range 16 N. Lot 24 Grave 1 (no shell). Rev. Parr Clergy, Comstock's Funeral Directors.
Mary Estelle (Eleanor) Johnston
In the 1891 census, Mary was born in Ontario, her father and mother were born in England, and she was a Baptist. Her mother, Ann Johnstone, was living with them.

Joseph and Sarah were married in St. Lukes Anglican Church, Peterborough, ON. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary 18 Nov 1950.
He was a member of the first Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade for 20 years until it was disbanded in 1904.
The family spent 58 summers at their cottage, built in 1892, on a private island, at Stoney Lake, ON, owned by the Yellands and another family. His favorite sport was fishing.
He was a lifetime resident of Peterborough, ON.
He was one of the oldest members of the congregation of Murray Street Baptist Church.Joseph was a carriagemaker and blacksmith from 1885; and in 1892, he took over the family business, until the age of the "motorcar." The carriage shop was purchased from the estate of William Yelland, in 1920, by Mr. H. Gainey.
He was employed in various mills in Montreal and Fort William as a Civil Engineer and Contractor.
He built locks & docks on the Trent Canal System and built lock gates & most of the warves & pier buildings at Youngs Point. The 1901 Census shows his date of birth as 23 Aug 1861, the Family Register and the newspaper birth anouncement shows 23 Aug 1859.The 1914 Peterborough City Assessment shows him living at 693 Harvey Street.
He lived at 677 Bethune Street when he died in 1951.
He died at 92 years in the Civic Hospital, Peterborough, ON. Cause of death: Pneumonia

He lived all his life in Peterborough, ON.
He was the source of much of my Yelland family history information.His wife Betty had Alziemer's disease and was in a home until she died 8 Jun 1996.

Services were held on 26 Sep 1994 at Comstock Funeral Home, with Rev. Philip Brown officiating. Cremation was at Highland Park Crematorium, Peterborough, ON.
He was burried on 27 Sep 1994 at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, ON in the family plot.

He died at St. Michael's Hospital on Sunday, March 14, 1976, in his 81st year.

She is the twin sister of John.
John, Elizabeth, and Mary came to Canada on 5 Sep 1872 aboard the SS Prussian, with their parents Samuel and Grace and their grand-parents, William and Fidelia Yelland. Elisabeth was listed as Bessie Yelland, infant, but she is the twin sister of John, who was listed as 3 years old. Mary was listed as an infant.
He was a machinist at the time of his marriage.
In the 1901 Census, he lived in Household #86, William George Yelland lived in Household #84, and Ben Yelland lived in Household #81.
